ICAST 2006 was held successfully at the designated venue from 02 Sep to 03 Sep 2006 in Islamabad. The participation and turn-out at the conference was phenomenal and encouraging. On behalf of the organizers of the conference, I personally thank all the participants, authors, speakers and all others who helped in any way for making ICAST 2006 a reality. ICAST 2006 was organized to present applications of space technology in various disciplines, mainly disaster management and rehabilitation. One of the objectives of this conference was to provide an open discussion forum for the professionals from public and private sectors to explore strength of spatial technologies and applications of these technologies in different disciplines. ICAST 2006 provided a platform for the participants and policy makers from Pakistan and abroad, in the field of spatial sciences to obtain and share their knowledge based on space technologies, particularly geographic information systems and remote sensing, and to make recommendations for spreading these emerging technologies to promote the economic development of Pakistan. On the recommendations of the participants of ICAST 2006, IGIS would like to hold, on regular basis, tutorial sessions, symposia, workshops, seminars and conferences in future to increase public awareness of GIS and RS tools and to increase the effectiveness of these technologies. The next episode of this multidimensional event will happen in Sep 2008, so please keep in touch for exact dates and timelines.
