Introduction to Pak-AST (Pakistan - Advances in Space Technologies)

Biennial Conference Proposal: IEEE Islamabad Section
24 December 2005, IGIS Islamabad, Pakistan

Organized By
IEEE-Islamabad Section

Introduction

Space Technology Innovation is being currently recognized as a key element for the assurance of the long-term competitiveness. We stand at an exciting point in the exploration of space. Many activities on earth are no longer possible without space innovations and we cannot imagine the future that new applications of space research will bring us in addition to meteorology, monitoring, disaster predictions and telecommunications.
IEEE Islamabad Section has identified this need and is currently planning an International Conference on Advances in Space Technologies as a regular feature to be held biennially. The objective of the conference is to discuss with the national/international delegations, industries and research centers the various ongoing activities aimed at promoting technology advances globally. In addition, a number of invited speakers will describe their innovation strategies and the technical content of specific technology adoption actions.
Technology transfer is a key goal of this Conference. This Conference promotes international participation and provides for a timely exchange of information among technologists, academicians, industrialists, and program managers on technical issues related to space technologies, exploration, and the potential for performing scientific research for developing new technologies.

Main objectives / Agenda of the Symposium

To open a dialogue to explore the existing strength and advances of space technologies in Pakistan, and the possibility of how space technologies can be strengthened through public private partnership in Pakistan based on the historical track.
How the resources can be generated to help the local professionals in organizing new and innovative activities that will benefit them. The activities could be seminars, tutorials, symposia, conferences, and local student’s activities in aeronautics and astronautics systems. Increasing applications in space technologies in Pakistan.
Based on the review of Pakistan Advances in Space Technologies, finalization of a proposal for Pak-AST (Pakistan Advances in Space Technologies) as regular biennial conference with a specific theme each time following the RAST (Recent Advances in Space Technologies) model of Turkey.
Establishment of AESS (Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society) and GRSS (Geo-science and Remote Sensing Society) Chapters of IEEE Islamabad Section as co-sponsor of Pak-AST.
