PSGIS was established in 1997 for the promotion of GIS Technology in Pakistan. PSGIS is a wider network of foreign qualified GIS expert in Pakistan and abroad. The former Prime Minister of Pakistan (Late) Malik Meraj Khalid was the first Patron of PSGIS. Prof. Dr. Hideharu Morishita provides technical support to PSGIS. PSGIS has organized several GIS conferences and international seminars in Pakistan since 1997. At present PSGIS is a registered scientific society as non-profit organization. PSGIS was established by Dr. M. Atiq ur Rahman in 1997 when he was a graduate student in Human Settlements Development Program of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Hideharu Morishita , a Japanese seconded Faculty in AIT has been the main driving force to strengthen the technical abilities of PSGIS. On January 24th, 1997, Dr. Morishita met with Mr. Meraj Khalid, the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Prime Minister promised to promote the use of GIS Technology in institutions related with urban planning, natural resource management and environmental protection agencies in Pakistan. In the first International Seminar organized by PSGIS in 1998 held at National university of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Rawalpindi, Mr. Meraj Khalid accepted the request of PSGIS to patronize this organization. PSGIS has organized several international conferences and seminars in Pakistan. PSGIS has also provided technical training to the staffs from different departments and universities in Pakistan. With the continuous efforts of PSGIS, today Pakistan has many centers and institutions offering GIS courses and subjects leading to higher degrees. PSGIS is now planning to provide job opportunities to future graduates in the field of GIS Technology. PSGIS is a good example of people - people exchange of knowledge and technology transfer between Japan and
Pakistan. The contribution of Prof. Dr. Hideharu Morishita are highly remarkable and well appreciated by GIS Community in Pakistan.

WAPDA - High Voltage and Short Circuit (HVSC) Laboratory

HVSC Laboratory, Rawat, Islamabad has been established in early 1990’s to provide specialized services of quality testing and certification for a whole range of distribution and transmission of class equipment manufactured in the country. The main unit of the laboratory, located at Rawat caters for high voltage insulation and high current tests and studies. The subordinate unit which is located at Nishatabad, Faisalabad focuses primarily on mechanical performance of various items of hardware and accessories. Both the units are ISO-9001:2000 certified, and are fully engaged to provide expert services for national uplift of manufacturing industry and operating electric utility companies in Pakistan. Utilizing the facilities of the laboratory, goal-focused R&D activities have been undertaken on various problems of practical significance and the research findings have contributed in enhancing the reliability of electrical power network in the country. National and international clients are invited to make use of this state-of-the-art laboratory, where quality services are available at most affordable cost.
